I am going to be honest with you at first going out to a restaurant was really hard for me. I felt as if the only thing I could get is a salad with balsmic dressing. But I was so wrong! Eating out gets easier the more comfortable you get with your eating preference you have chosen for yourself.
Think about it this way when you order a burger at a restaurant and tell them no onions, and no mustard that is your preference. Your waitress doesnt look at you like your crazy does she?
So asking your waitress to hold off on the mayo or cheese, or no chicken with that isnt that extreme as you think. It is your preference and there is nothing wrong with that. Just dont be shy when it comes to ASKING for what you would like your meal to be. You are there to purchase the food and they are happy to serve you :)
Dont be discouraged because it takes more time for you to look through the menu and see what you can order. Just remember you are doing a good thing for the animals and planet. Be proud of that :)
SOME TIPS:
- If a friend asks you to go to lunch or dinner you should suggest a place that has Vegan options or somewhere that is easy to pick something and make it Vegan.
- Sushi, Vietnemse, Chinese, and Mexican I have come to find to be the best places to eat Vegan.
- Most Burger joints have Veggie Burgers (just make sure their isnt any eggs or milk in them)
- Rice Bowls will be your best friend they usually are so filling and packed with yummy grilled veggies. If you want a sauce to go with it that has no dairy - I recommend asking for any kind of vinegar or balsmic glaze on the side and it is sooo soo good.
- Always plan ahead this is huge for me - whenever I know I am going somewhere I look at the menu previous to find something I want to eat that I can make vegan. This has helped me so much !
- Order all sides for your food! You dont have to have the typical American plate (one meat, one carb, one veggie) Eat what you want that fuels your body. Ordering sides is just as satisfying and you can have a lot of options doing this.
- Last dont get upset if there isnt much to choose from at a non vegan restaurant. Try and focus on who you are with and the experience you are making with that person or people. Order a nice beverage and just relax and enjoy your time!
